Why You Shouldn't Train Abs To Failure |

Smart trainees know that progression is the name of the game in fitness and strength training. However, as you continually test your limits of accomplishment, whether that’s reaching a new level of leanness, increasing your muscle mass or obtaining a new strength maximum, you often fall prey to the belief that you must push yourself to the point of complete “failure.” This is the point where you reach a level of fatigue and exhaustion that causes your muscles to literally give out (“fail”) and you can’t complete another rep. Training with progression and intensity is important, but unless you’d like to trade a nice set of abs for a bad lower back, I’d strongly urge you to re-evaluate the concept of training to failure, especially when it comes to core and abdominal workouts and especially if you’re not a bodybuilder. |

Are you ready for my famous "gain muscle or lose fat" chart? I know this is going to make a few people mad, but it's the truth about whether a guy should lose fat or gain muscle. If he doesn't stick to my recommendations, he won't get the ripped abs and muscles he wants. |

Pay Your Bodybuilding Dues With Deadlifts |

Hardly ANYONE uses deadlifts at the gym…and with good (though arguably "wimpy") reason. For one…they’re TOUGH…a real leg and back mass builder that requires nerves of steel and a sadistic craving for pain. The other reason some people ignore this exercise? Done incorrectly, they’re a lower back KILLER! Lifting with a barbell piled on with weight forces the body into a position that makes it difficult to center the body properly to avoid overextension of the lower back.

The epic war movie “300” is out on DVD now and I can’t walk into a single Walmart without being bombarded by an army of posters depicting washboard abs and swords. Hell, I practically have to snap my fingers in front of my wife’s face to break her out of her trance as we walk by the giant cardboard displays of the ripped and shredded ancient soldiers! And judging from the mop and bucket I saw stationed next to the display, it must be getting quite a bit of female attention. (“Herb...time to clean up the drool puddle on aisle 6...AGAIN!”) |

When you travel, you worry about missing your workouts and eating
poorly...So you must plan ahead for both (apples and almonds for
planes, trains, & automobiles)...and bodyweight circuits for "no-equipment fat burning".
And while I have bodyweight exercises that are just as hard as the
bench press and barbell squat in one of my bodyweight workouts, today
we'll focus on replacing intervals with bodyweight circuits.
